You’re in pretty good shape, for the shape you are in

“So what are you doing here in the Netherlands” he asked as I was helping myself to another piece of cheese. “I am chiropractor. Have you heard of it?”. “Well yes, I went to one for a while and he cracked my spine it felt really nice but then I had to go all the time and I didn’t go back because I felt quite good.”
 
Well I wasn’t sure if he was asking me a question or telling me a story but I get these questionswindows10explained a lot and I thought it would be nice for me to clear up some things about what Chiropractic is and more importantly what it isn’t.
 
Maybe it’s just me but most articles on the internet are about what can make you lose 10 pounds quickly, How to be happy. What supplements can make you show your abs. How to sleep less and achieve more. It all seems like we are looking for the quick fix for our problems and the truth is, your life and your health are a consequence of what has happened in your life these past few years. Our central nervous system meaning our brain and spinal cord have to survive and coordinate every little thought and movement in our life which means that it’s doing its bestWindows 10 Professional OEM Key 100% of the time, all the time. So as Dr. Seuss said,
 

 “You’re in pretty good shape, for the shape you are in.”

 
But let me ask this, How healthy is healthy? People seem to go back to that yoga class every week even though they know all the poses and feel pretty good. People keep going to the gym even though they are fit. But how fit is fit? You brush your teeth everyday even though they look pretty clean. But how clean is clean?
 
First things first, let’s talk about what our health paradigm is and what it means to be healthy. Is health to you just an absence of symptoms? Is it surviving your day to day or thriving in your situation. Personally and I hope you all agree, health and vitality are a continuum and everyday where you lie on this continuum can move forward or backwards. Let us put in in perspective whereby 0-1 is that you are on life support. You are alive but just barely. 100 is where everything in your body is functioning the way it should and you are vital and energetic. It’’s a long road folks and even though in this day and age we live longer than we ever have before, I am not sure we are living healthier.
 
I have an example of two people. One is Sarah a 25 year old woman who has continuous digestive complaints, some excema on her skin and has been on some mild anti depressants in the past. The other is a 55 year old man, Peter who has a successful business, a lovely family, runs regular marathons and the only medication he takes is for high blood pressure. Which of these two people seem healthier to you and where would you place them on the health continuum? To me, they are both in a little bit of trouble. Even though Sarah is young, her digestive complaints, congested skin and altered mental state is not ideal even though she, on the outside might seem perfectly normal to everybody. Peter is a living life but his body is under such stress that he is a prime candidate for the no.1 killer in the Western world – heart disease, essentially an asymptomatic condition till you have the heart attack.
 
How much of our health do we need to LOSE before we deem ourselves unhealthy and to acknowledge that we are moving the wrong way on our health continuum?
