Nutritional Consult

What is Nutritional Consultancy? At Evolve Personal Health Institute we believe that each person is a unique individual with highly individualized nutritional requirements. Personal differences in anatomy, metabolism, body composition and cell structure all influence your overall health and the foods that make you feel your best. That’s why we believe there’s no single way of eating that works for everyone. The food that is perfect for your unique body, age, and lifestyle may make another person gain weight and feel tired. We all have very different preferences. Our personal tastes and inclinations, natural shapes and sizes, blood types, metabolic rates and genetic backgrounds influence which foods will and which ones won’t nourish us.   One of the major factors we look into at Evolve is ancestry. If many generations of your ancestors from Scandinavia were accustomed to eating dairy on a daily basis, it’s natural that your body will be able to assimilate dairy foods. Most traditional African communities did not regularly consume milk products, by contrast, so it makes sense that a lot of people of African descent today are lactose intolerant.   At Evolve we also look at metabolism, which is the rate at which you convert food into energy. You may recall that as a teenager you could eat anything without any indigestion or tightening of your jeans. That’s because young people have fast metabolic rates and burn calories more quickly than adults. Even adults have different types of metabolic activity that all require varying proportions of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Knowing what you metabolize best will help you choose foods that support your individual body. These are just a few of the factors that influence which foods will and which ones won’t nourish you. Ultimately, one person’s food may be another person’s poison, and that is why diets never work on the long run. You need to find out that works for you and your needs at this specific point in your life. People are different, and getting to know your own body is an essential step in staying healthy!   “The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition.”

Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture? Acupuncture treats patients by manipulating thin, solid needles that have been inserted into acupuncture points in the skin. According to traditional Chinese medicine, stimulating these points corrects imbalances in the flow of qi (energy) through channels known as meridians. Acupuncture is known to relieve pain, increase fertility, treat rheumatoid arthritis and reduce nausea after chemotherapy.   Tom Peters

Dry Needling

What is Dry Needling? This method of therapy is used for the treatment of myofascial pain generated by trigger points within the deep tissue of the muscle itself. This specific pain is characterized by a dull, diffuse pain that cannot be easily located. Studies show that about 30% of the pain injuries in people are caused by trigger points.   Evolve’s Acupuncturist Tom Peters has been using this method for five years now and discovered there is more use for it than just resolving myofascial pain. One of the most important ones is to mobilize joints – especially in the spine – by needling the motor points of the muscles that fingers just can’t reach.   After inserting the sterile needle, which feels like nothing more than a tiny sting, the needle is painless. Then the practitioner starts searching the trigger point by manipulating the needle. After ‘myolises’ (the twitch of the muscle) occurs the muscle is stronger (5 to 15%) and longer, which can be tested immediately afterwards. After the treatment the client can experience pain or stiffness in the muscle due to the procedure. This is normal and is actually desired.   Dry Needling  – Rate : € 40,- – Duration : 20 min   Tom is available on: Tuesday & Friday You can reach Tom on: +31(0)6 41 414 847 or on  info@acupunctuur-tom-peters.nl

  • My name is Junior Degen. I’m 16 years old and live in Arnhem. I’m on the Bijsterbosch judo team from Heerde. For the last three seasons, Sanders has been my fitness coach. He taught me the basics of weight training when I was 14 years old, using very light weights at the time. Now that I’m a little older and can really start working out, those early lessons are paying off. Sander is much more than a fitness coach to me. For the past year and a half, he has worked hard to make my back more flexible and to position my shoulders further back. Before big tournaments he makes me just a little more fit than I already was. As a result I can train better. He also helps me with injury recovery, nutrition and supplements, which enables me to lose weight before a game in a responsible way. I’m very happy to have Sander as my trainer and hope we will continue our relationship for a

  • I’m an entrepreneur and a mom, which means I need to be in good shape to perform my best. Training with Mike has helped me recover from my two pregnancies a lot faster. Being a great judge of character, Mike knows exactly what your boundaries are. Further to this, he has extensive knowledge of the human body, which means he can create the perfect tailor-made training schedule for his clients. He keeps track of the latest developments in the world of fitness and always brings in new exercises and techniques when relevant. You can really feel his passion in every training session, which motivates you to give it your all. As a result, one session with Mike equals three sessions on your own in the gym.

  • After failing to catch a snatch, clean and jerk at the bottom position and after finding out that I could not do one miserable pistol due to poor mobilit y, let alone a decent overhead squat, I decided to give Sander a buzz to see if he could help me out of my “misery”. I had no idea what I was getting myself into but heck, I´d give it a shot anyway. Needless to say that I found out that was pretty much a stiff Betty. My mobility had left the building as it were. Active Stretching isn´t a form of yoga, it is a workout. Well to me it felt like one. I left sweating, I found even more weak spots but most of all I had a great time laughing at my weaknesses. Interestingly enough I noticed the difference quite quickly. My hips were much suppler, my lower back better yet, I got stronger. Yes indeed because the small muscles were doing their job too for a change! oh and guess what? I managed to do 50 pistols at the CrossFit Europe Regionals! How is that for progress? Thank you Sander!

  • All my life, I’ve been performing at the highest athletic level, which sometimes leads to injuries that prevent me from training all out or even result in pain in everyday life. At the moment, I’m ranked no.1 in weight lifting in the masters category and I’m aiming for the world title in October. The only thing standing in my way is the pain in my back. Having had great experiences with Sander during my preparation for the European Championships, I turned to him once again to help me get rid of my pain. Already my aches are diminishing and I’m fully confident Sander will be able to fix me this time around in the run-up to the World Championships.

  • I’ve had a lot of experience with personal trainers in both Amsterdam and London, but if you ask me, Michael Henskens is by far the best and most effective personal trainer I’ve ever worked with. Michael has mastered and keeps improving all techniques and expertise you would expect from a personal trainer. Being a smart guy, he knows exactly how to put together the perfect training schedule based on your wishes, goals and capabilities and how to adapt the program to gain maximum results.

  • During the three months I’ve trained at Evolve, I never had to drag myself over there once. Before, there were times when I couldn’t motivate myself to go to the gym, but never felt that way because of the variety in workout routines. Mike and Sander really stimulate you and keep a close eye on your technique. Believe it or not, I’m lifting 80 kilos now! No pain no gain. That’s the only way I want it. Only if you’re dedicated and give it your all, that’s when you’ll get results. And it shows in the weekly measurements. They’re very precise and really let you track your progress, which is very motivating. Based on your readings, your schedule or diet can be adjusted if necessary to increase the efficiency of your training. And forget about sneaking in a weekend of partying, because it will show up in your tests. Believe me, I’ve tried. After working out, you can treat yourself to a massage, an infrared sauna session or a visit to a beautician – all under the same roof. I love it! But most of all I love the results I get at Evolve.

  • Since March 2013, together with a friend, I have been training about twice a week with our senior trainer Bryan. Previously I wasn’t always in the mood for aerobic classes or the gym, but I am now actually looking forward to our weekly training sessions at Evolve. They’re always fun, it feels great, and the hour has passed before you know it. Mainly because Bryan keeps surprising and challenging us with a huge variety in exercises, and every couple of weeks he surprises us with a completely new program. I am always impressed how he keeps pushing us both, each at our own individual level. He doesn’t accept any excuses, but recognizes when we reach our limits. He is an absolute expert, and shares many useful tips & tricks when it comes to exercises and food. And best of all, I am actually feeling AND seeing some results!
